Outside The Window…Cloudy, cold – same old, same old. The forecast does predict some welcome sunshine and average temps closer to the weekend. I hope the weatherman is right! The birds continue to eat voraciously.

From the learning rooms…
We’re focusing on 4-H things today.

From the kitchen…

    Menu

B – cereal / french toast – Joe & I
L – Leftovers
D – McDonalds on way to 4-H

Today’s “To Do” List…
The usual daily household chores, 4-H stuff, work on cleaning up some of the clutter piles.

Thinking ahead…
Tomorrow there are no outside commitments – we just need to be home. I really like these days – everything we do seems so much more relaxed and enjoyable.

Random thoughts…
Looks like those before and after pictures aren’t going to happen – at least not right now. However, the results of our 12 week weight loss are (drum roll please…) 31.2# for me and 31.4# (I think) for Joe!

Outside The Window…
bbbbrrrrrrr…..still COLD here – zero or below! Cloudy and uneventful today. I ventured out only to go to daily Mass and to shovel up and carry down the road a ways a dead mouse the dog scrounged up and was rolling in – yuck!

From the learning rooms…
What you don’t see on the to-do list below is what I wanted to accomplish for “school” today. It ended up being piano, preschool music, math for all, reading, and hobbies/4-H stuff (that needs to be done for the meeting tomorrow night). One of the things the girls put together for the 4-H meeting tomorrow is a demonstration on cardmaking. They practiced on Alex and I today and did a great job! I hope it goes as well for them tomorrow night.

From the kitchen…

    Menu

B – cereal/ eggs n’ toast
L – grilled cheese toastwiches, bananas and clementines
Snacks: toast n’ jelly, choc. chip bars
D – sirloin tip roast and potatoes in crock pot, garden beans and lettuce salad on the side. Ice cream for dessert.

Today’s “To Do” List…

A typical To-Do list for me 🙂

Thinking ahead…
No time to do that today…!

Random thoughts…
Isn’t it fun to look back and watch all those old home videos? Was everyone really that little? that young? 🙂

Outside The Window…
VERY cold again! I don’t think we made it above zero today, and the wind chills: -20/-25. Some sunshine was nice though.

From the learning rooms…
Saturday – day off, no formal learning.

From the kitchen…

    Menu

Breakfast – Cereal (kids)
Brunch – (Joe & I) Eggs, toast, beets & green beans (just me 🙂 )
Lunch – Leftovers (for kids)
Snacks: Blueberry muffins, nuts, apples and bananas
Dinner: Tacos/taco salads for some, burger patties for others w/ mandarin oranges

Today’s “To Do” List…
nothing written out – but finish out laundry, stay on top of dishes and being picked up, run into town, hem pants, confession – all possibilities swimming around in my head

Thinking ahead…
Tomorrow will be a break from laundry and housework as much as possible – I’ve got to think about the upcoming week’s schedule and menus not to mention any schooling.

Outside The Window…
It seemed as though we were going to go without the joy of sunshine again today, but mid-afternoon the wind blew the clouds out and the sun peaked through for a bit. I took an opportunity to go skiing while the kids were eating lunch and CJ was napping. The girls and Joe had been out earlier, so I was looking forward to following a nice trail. Little did I realize the wind had covered everything. I also had no wax on my skiis for the conditions – what a fiasco! I couldn’t stop slipping for anything. Guess I’ll have to snowshoe until I get those skiis waxed.

From the learning rooms…
Art – We have some local ladies who make beaded servingware paired with serving dishes, etc. like this, and we were admiring their work that was for sale in the beauty salon yesterday. Today, the girls decided they wanted to try their hand at it, and I must say the results were quite good!

Although I can’t believe all the art supplies that accumulate sometimes, it is good to have the right things on hand when inspiration strikes. I’m quite sure that if I had to run and get supplies the next time I went to town, the motivation would’ve passed and the girls wouldn’t have tried this project (more than likely anyway).

From the kitchen…

    Menu

Breakfast – cereal for all today, except for me…I had my favorite egg drink.
Lunch – Chicken nuggets, clementines and apple slices w/peanut butter, chocolate milk (I wasn’t hungry, so I had a couple snacks of nuts today and coconut oil)
Supper – Chicken noodle soup or Chicken parmesan

Today’s “To Do” List…
I actually don’t have a real plan for today – just going to enjoy being home and work about getting things done

Thinking ahead…
I’m hoping everyone can get to confession tomorrow.

Random thoughts…
Heard a new song today that I liked. Here’s the link.

Outside The Window…
At 20 degrees this morning, it finally feels downright balmy! Fog hanging in the air, trees are still beautiful, dozens of finches and juncos are still feeding. Our dog, Tillie, if she’s bored, pretends she has to go out just so she can chase the birds off the porch. This could get old real fast…

From the learning rooms…
Instrument practice and co-op class for EE today. Ranger Rick came in the mail and everyone’s excited. It will make the rounds to everybody today, I’m sure. We will be gone into town for most of the day, so nothing else scheduled.

From the kitchen…

    Menu

B – toast and cereal, kids. Although I’m a firm believer in breakfast, Joe and I are passing today because it is final weigh-in day for the 12 week fitness program going on at Joe’s work. We want to weigh in as light as possible – we’ve got our eye on the prize and we’ve got a shot at it! I’ll try to post final weight loss totals for us and maybe even a before and after pic if I can get to it.

Today’s “To Do” List…
Any available time left today goes towards trying to pick up this house!

Thinking ahead…
My DH doesn’t ask for much, but he’s made a request. He wants several pairs of pants hemmed…NOW. Tomorrow is the day – I must do this for him.

Random thoughts…
I wish we didn’t have so much “stuff,” but when I try to pare down, it seems we “need”, or find useful, or might find useful, all our “stuff”! 🙂

“Well, food, of course!”
Ah, yes – this from the son who is always saying he’s hungry!

Outside The Window…
Cloudy – kind of dreary really, but the ice on the trees is beautiful. It’s in the teens. You’d think after -20 these temps would feel like a heat wave, but I just haven’t been able to get warm all day. We have at least a dozen goldfinches, house finches, and juncos feeding on our porch at any given time. Wow, do they go through the thistle seed! I’m filling the feeders a couple times/week.

From the learning rooms…
I was determined to accomplish the following: phy ed, math, instrument practice, and history. Of course, there is always reading happening. We got these few items done! For American history, we watched a Colonial times series DVD, Jamestown settlement, while coloring from the Dover American Revolution coloring book. For some reason, coloring while we read aloud or watch history has become a favorite of all my boys. JB got upset over the Christmas season because we weren’t “doing school” and thus none of his beloved history coloring. For Phy Ed, we ventured out to the YMCA. It was a first for all the kids, as we just purchased a family membership. The basketball class (taught by myself) was fun and a hit with the three olders. The younger boys weren’t so happy. CJ and TM, the two youngest, who have never been away from mom much, bawled in the childcare room. At least CJ calmed down when held, but TM planted himself in a little swing and wouldn’t settle down for anyone. It even took me awhile to calm him. Luckily, we didn’t leave them for too long.
JM and JB were very excited to play in their room, but in true JB fashion and despite the fact he chose to stay in the play area, he pouted and whined for quite some time afterward about how he really wanted to play basketball instead. This is the same kid who was complaining about not doing history. For him, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

From the kitchen…

    Menu

B – hey, cereal and eggs!
L – Chocolate chip pancakes w/ maple syrup; mealshake drink (Shaklee)
D – Leftovers, taken care of by my oldest as I had a meeting.

Today’s “To Do” List…
Accomplish school list, feed everyone, and keep loading and folding laundry 🙂

Thinking ahead…
I’m scheduling nothing additional for tomorrow so I won’t be disappointed when it’s not done. We are in town for co-op class and other things most of the day.

Random thoughts…
I’ve been researching and looking at cookware. Am I really going to have to spring for Le Creuset? If you don’t want “made in china” and non-stick coatings – it doesn’t leave you with too many options. I do love my cast iron, but for some things, it’s not the right material. I’m leaning towards the enameled cast iron as of now.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…
Again, I’m just going to share a favorite picture. There are just some pictures we’ve taken that I love and they make me feel very sentimental.

Inauguration Day – Yes, I will be watching. Many I know will not. My kids lost attention quickly – they are now out XCskiing, running around in the basement, or napping. So far, I’m not that impressed, but that doesn’t surprise me because I am rarely moved by political speeches and no fan of Barack Obama.

Let us pray today – pray for our country and its conversion. For our new President and his conversion. That FOCA will not pass. That God will continue to be patient and merciful unto us.

I will be out and about for much of the rest of the day, so I probably won’t blog anymore today. With both the Presidential inauguration and the March for Life this week, there’s nothing more important to say than “Pray” right now anyway…
